Rest for Your Souls - Feet On a Rock

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Hi! Shalom! Welcome to our Blog!

Feet on a Rock are Lusi Austin and Heiko and Lori Altmann.
We are friends, musicians and most importantly, followers of Yah and believers in Yeshua.

We desire to walk the ancient paths that Yah has called us to (Jeremiah 6:16) in love, truth, grace and mercy as we are lead by His Spirit and directed by His Word.

We pray the music we have written, arranged and recorded is a blessing to you.
Please feel free to leave comments or questions on this blog and we will try our best to get back to you!

We give thanks to Yah for leading us in every way throughout the creation of this album.
He is our Rock and our Redeemer whom we dearly love.

May Yehovah bless you as you listen to the songs of this album.

=====================================================

NB: I'd like to make a couple of special mentions of thanks... to the ladies at the Torah retreat I went on which was organised by my dear friend Donna Edwards. I shared this music with them, playing it on my guitar. They all encouraged me to seek to get it recorded. In fact, my sweet friend Jeneen actually said, "You don't undertand Lusi. We NEED this music". It was that phrase that really motivated me to seek Yah on how to go about recording it.
When I was talking it over with Heiko and Lori and they offered to record it for me, I could never have imagined that the music would evolve so beautifully. They have gifts that inspire me but their walk with Yah is COMPLETELY inspirational, encouraging and humbling. Thank you both for the way in which you lovingly and patiently perservered in recording this music with the desire to serve Yah with all your heart. Love you both.
Finally, thank you to Brett and our children for allowing me the time and energy to record these songs. Love you mate with all my heart and love you kiddos so much!

Lyrics: Psalm 40

Early in 2011, I went on a Torah Ladies Retreat organised by my dear friend Donna Edwards. It was a lovely weekend and I wrote the music to these words from Psalm 40 as I was sitting on a couch there on the last morning of the retreat. Sun streamed through the window as I read through the words of this Psalm and a new song indeed rose in my heart and mouth.

Verse One:

I waited patiently for Yah
He turned to me and heard my cry
He lifted me out of the pit
He set my feet on a rock
Gave me a firm place to stand
He put a new song in my mouth

 Chorus One:

Many will see and fear and put their trust in Him
Many will see and put their trust in Yehovah

 Verse Two:

Many Oh Yah
Are the wonders you have done
The things you have planned
no one can recount to you
And were I to speak

and tell of them
They would be too many

to declare

Chorus Two:

And I desire to do your will Oh Yah
Your Torah is within my heart

Lyrics: I Am Of The Olive Tree

One of the most life-changing truths for me came when I began to understand that although I am not naturally born of Israel, I have still been adopted in!
I used to think that God treated his naturally born children and his adopted children differently.
I used to think that there were different instructions for the native born and the foreigner.
Yet this is not what scripture tells me!

I remember being shocked when I read some of these verses for the first time.

One such passage was NUMBERS 15:15-16 which says this,
"The community is to have the SAME rules for you and for the foreigner residing among you; this is a LASTING ORDINANCE for the generations to come.   YOU and the FOREIGNER shall be THE SAME before the Lord:  The SAME LAWS AND REGULATIONS will apply both to YOU and to the FOREIGNER residing among you." (Capitalisation mine)

Paul talks about us being grafted into the same olive tree in ROMANS 11:11-24 and in Ephesians 4 we are reminded that we are ONE BODY not two!

In my other blog, Mama's Place, I wrote an article called, 'But...aren't all these things you are talking about just for Israel?' which you are more than welcome to go across and read too if you like.
I wrote this song based on the Scriptural truths that I recieved from Yah; that although I am a stranger (not native born), I am grafted in, of the olive tree and therefore, I too am of Israel.
Bless you as you listen to and sing these words.

Verse One:

I am of the olive tree
I have been grafted in
I am of Israel
Though I’ve never even been there
It is my homeland
I am of Israel

Chorus:

And one day, one day, one day
He will bring me home

Verse Two:

Ephraim and Judah
Will come back together
They are of Israel
The stranger and sojourner
Walking with Yah together
They are of Israel

 Chorus:

And one day, one day, one day
He will bring them home

 Spoken Interlude:
{From Ezekiel 37:20-22}

I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone
I will gather them from all around and bring them back to their own land.
I will make them one nation in the land,
On the mountains of Israel.
There will be one king over them
And they will never again be two nations
Or divided into two kingdoms

{From Romans 11:17}

And you, though a wild olive shoot,
have been grafted in among the others
and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root...

{From Ephesians 2:19}

Now, therefore, you are NO LONGER STRANGERS and FOREIGNERS, but FELLOW CITIZENS with the saints and members of the household of God

 Verse Three:

We who do the will
Of Abba in heaven
We are of Israel
Mishpokah all scattered
Will be united in one kingdom
We are of Israel

Chorus:

And one day, one day, one day
He will bring us home
And one day, one day, one day
He will bring me home

Lyrcis: Hear and Obey

This song was written one Shabbat morning at home in my loungeroom.
Teshuva is the hebraic word for turning from your ways that are not Yah's and RETURNING to Him and His ways; true repentance.
In many ways, it is a simple concept yet in the flesh it can be very hard to actually DO!
My heart's desire is to be able to hear and obey my God because I LOVE Him! Not because I feel bullied to or condemned but out of my desire to honour Him because of my great love for Him.
The Torah is the hebrew word for God's written laws (captured specifically in the first five books of the Bible but also mentioned throughout).
Yehovah, according to the STRONG'S CONCORDANCE, is the, 'the proper name of the one true God' with the transliteration of Yehovah.
I still say other names for Yah (the shortened version) too but since it is His Name then I love to call Him by His name (just as I like to be called my own!)

Lyrics: Stand at the Crossroads

This song was written so I could help my children to learn this scripture as a memory verse.
As I sang it I realised how true this was of our own journey in faith; we were indeed brought to a crossroads and had prayed for Yah to reveal His truth to us. We no longer wanted to settle for what we had been taught or had believed without understanding why we believed it and where we could see it in the Scriptures. We asked for the ancient paths and were lead to understand the joy and truth in the Feasts that Yah gave His people, along with the blessing of Shabbat (sabbath) and many other things.
As we learnt about His good ways and began walking in them as He lead us by His Spirit, we found that we did find rest for our souls, even when others may not have understood the journey we were taking. It is our collective prayer that as you journey with Yah and seek Him wholeheartedly, that you will come to your own crossroads and that He will lead you graciously down the ancient paths that you may also find rest for your souls.

Verse:

Ask for the ancient paths
Ask where the good way is
And walk in it

Chorus:
And you will find rest for your souls,
You will find rest for your souls,
You will find rest for your souls
When you walk in His ways

Lyrics: Praise To Yah

This song evolved probably the most out of all the songs on this album.
As we began recording, Lori and Heiko could hear the celebration and praise in it and an African choir kind of sound throughout!
So they changed the tempo and instruments, recorded a choir from their own voices and put this beautiful song together which we pray will really uplift and encourage others to Praise Yah!
- Lusi
Please note:  El Shaddai is God Almighty in Hebrew.

The 'SHEMA' in verse three is the prayer that is found in Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear of Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD our God is one'. This is the first part of this prayer.
When Yeshua was asked which commandment was the greatest in the Torah, he responded by QUOTING THE SHEMA.

Lyrics: Return to Me

In 2010, our family celebrated the Feast of Trumpets at home with some good friends of ours.
It was a lovely celebration. For most of the feasts, I pray and then choose a theme for our special time of celebration and rememberance.
The theme that year for that feast was 'Repent, Restore and Return with Joy'.
As we learnt and read from the Scriptures, I was inspired by how compassionate God is and how He desires for us to repent, restore to us what has been lost and for us to return with joy just as the Israelites did when the Book of the Law (the Torah) was read aloud for the first time after many years in exile.
The account in Nehemiah 8 tells us that when the Book of the Law of Moses was read aloud to the people, Israel was moved by the words so much that they bowed their faces to the ground and wept aloud. Nehemiah had to tell the people to stop weeping and to go and eat choice foods and drink sweet drinks, "For the joy of  Yehovah is your strength!" (Nehemiah 8:10)
The Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) is such a wonderful celebration and a call to repentance.
At the beginning of this song, Heiko sounds the shofar (ram's horn).
We thank Yehovah for sending Yeshua to restore us to Himself.
It is because of His selfless act that we are truly and completely restored.

We will return to Him and sing for joy!

Lyrics: Our Passover Lamb

We all pray this song is a blessing to many individuals and families who desire to honour Yah through the appointed times which He set apart for His people. How beautifully Yeshua (Jesus) fulfills Passover as our ultimate Passover Lamb!

Chorus:

Our Passover Lamb is He
Yeshua who died
at Calvary
Yeshua who died
at Calvary

Verse One:

In the days of old
the people were told
to take for themselves a lamb
without blemish or spot
to dwell with them
on the tenth day of Nisan
The lamb stayed for four days
until it came time
about 3pm for it's death
Not a bone to be broken
the lamb eaten that night
the blood now over the door

Bridge:

Do you see?
Do you see it is He (do you see it is He)
who fulfilled all this and more?
Do you see?
Do you see it is He (do you see it is He)?
Yeshua Mashiach
It is His story (pun on the word history!)

Verse Two:

He is our Passover Lamb
without blemish or spot
sinless and perfect in every way
He rode into
Jerusalem on a donkey
on Nisan's tenth day
Four days later came
time for his death
He breathed his last
at 3pm
Not a single bone broken
He suffered for us
He was crucified and
died the same day

Bridge:

Do you see?
Do you see it is He? (do you see it is He?)
who fulfilled all this and more
Do you see?
Do you see it is He? (do you see it is He?)
Yeshua Mashiach
It is His story (pun on the word history!)

Interlude:

His blood takes away my sin
and I am so thankful to him
His blood takes away my sin
and I am so thankful to him
His blood takes away my sin
and I am so thankful to him
His blood takes away my sin
and I am so thankful to him

Chorus:

Our Passover Lamb is He
Yeshua who died
at Calvary
Yeshua who died
at Calvary
Yeshua who died
He died for me

Lyrics: Bread of Life

I had prayed for Yehovah to give me a song to help us celebrate the wonderful 7 day long Feast of Unleavened Bread two years ago. This song came together in about 10 minutes and then I was teaching it to the kids from a scribbled on piece of paper at the piano. Honestly, whenever music and lyrics come together in such a manner for me, I sit up and take notice because I know it means Yah has done that!
How wonderful is He!
Notes: Yeshua Mashiach is Jesus Messiah in Hebrew.
Elohim is the plural form of 'El' (god) meaning 'Stong Ones'.
It appears in the very first verse in Genesis 1 and over 2500 times in the Tanakh ('old testament')

Lyrics: He's the Firstfruit

This is a song I wrote to help our family understand, celebrate and learn more about the Feasts of First Fruits.

The thing I have loved so much about working with Heiko and Lori on this album is that I had a collection of quite primitive songs that I thought were a good encouragement to my family.
They have taken these basic songs and helped to bring out a depth in them that I had never seen without having to change any of the lyrics.

We look forward to singing this song each year at First Fruits as we go and watch the sunrise. You can read about our celebrations of First Fruits on my blog HERE (2012), HERE (2011) and HERE (2010).
I just love seeing how Yeshua fulfills these feasts!
It's so rich a faith journey.

I thought I would include the references too that correspond to the lyrics in the verses.
Notes: Aleph and Tav are respectively, the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet. This corresponds to the Alpha and Omega in the Greek alphabet.

Lyrics: Fountain of Life

Of all the songs on the album, this is the one I wrote first. Many years ago, I was sitting at the piano and had my Bible open. This song came together very quickly (which is when I know that the Holy Spirit of Yah is creating something or stirring something new within me to share).
That day, I had the Word opened to Psalm 36. This song really only covers 3 verses from that passage but they are powerful words and speak of the mighty but compassionate nature of our God.

You can read the entire passage HERE.

As we were recording this song for this album, I closed my eyes and when I began singing, I started seeing myself standing on top of a beautiful mountain looking down over valleys and green pastures. I felt at complete peace in Yah's presence as words about His character flooded over me.
I also had this song playing during the homebirth of our son, Ezekiel and it brought me much peace then too.
I pray it does the same for you.

Lyrics: Shabbat Shalom

An uplifting song to sing on Shabbat.
Yah lovingly gave us a day to rest, restore and remember Him. He set this day apart from the beginning of creation.
Yeshua upheld all the Law (torah) and said that,
"Not even till heaven and earth pass away will even the smallest stroke of the law be done away with"
(Matthew 5:17)
The oral law of man is burdensome; full of tiresome commands.
The written commands that Yehovah gave for us, His people, are supposed to be 'life' to us.
The apostle Paul said,
"I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophetsand I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man"
(Acts 24:14-16)
The law remains and the blessings of following Yah's ways remain also.
Although we are not in the physical land of Israel, we are able to still enjoy the blessing of resting, restoring and remembering our Maker on this special set apart day.
May you truly be blessed as you enter His rest.
